Elon Musk is raising eyebrows again. This time, he's taking aim at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Musk hinted that Schumer might be benefitting from government fraud.
"Chuck, I’m starting to think you’re getting a piece of the action with the government fraud. But no, that couldn’t possibly be the reason, could it?" Musk posted Tuesday morning.
Musk is leading the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. His mission? Root out waste, fraud, and abuse in federal agencies. His comment came after Schumer accused DOGE of harming key programs.
Schumer didn't let it slide. He clapped back at Musk’s accusation. "Another Elon lie. He wants you to think anyone who dares to stand up to him is committing fraud, meanwhile he’s taking tens of billions from the government," Schumer wrote.
The two kept the spat going online. Schumer had claimed Musk is hurting Social Security. Musk didn’t hold back in his reply.
"Make no mistake: What Elon Musk is doing at Social Security is cutting benefits," Schumer had posted Monday. It echoed remarks from a speech he gave.
Musk wasn’t having it. "The intern running Schumer’s social media account is lying," he fired back Tuesday on X.
In his Senate speech, Schumer doubled down. He said, "Elon Musk is cutting Social Security benefits." He pointed to office closures and website issues as proof.
"When offices close down, when websites crash, when phone lines shut off, that's no different than cutting benefits," Schumer said. The political feud shows no signs of slowing down.
