Disney Replaces Iconic Ride with Woke Replacement

Disney invites guests to "drop on in" this summer with the opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World. Previously known as Splash Mountain, the revamped ride will debut in Orlando's Magic Kingdom on June 28.

The attraction promises a "musical adventure" featuring numerous Audio-Animatronics figures, a lively soundtrack, and a celebration that welcomes all. Princess Tiana from the 2009 film "Princess and the Frog" will lead the experience alongside other beloved characters like Mama Odie and Louis.

Zydeco, Rara, and Afro-Cuban music, true to the New Orleans region, will fill the air as characters play their instruments. The bayou is set to transform into a vibrant party scene.

Disney has announced that Florida-based cast members, annual passholders, and eligible Disney Vacation Club members will have early access to the attraction. Previews and additional details will be released starting Tuesday.

Throughout the transformation of the ride, Disney has actively shared updates with fans via the Disney Parks Blog. Enthusiasts have even captured footage of ride tests, featuring the iconic 50-foot drop.

On its final operational day in January 2023, Splash Mountain set a record at Walt Disney World. Fans endured a wait of 220 minutes—nearly four hours—for one last ride, as reported by Thrill Data.

The original water ride faced criticism for its depiction of characters and themes from "Song of the South," a 1946 film criticized for its racist portrayals. Despite the controversy, it remained a prominent Disney landmark since its opening in 1992.

A similar version of Tiana's Bayou Adventure is also planned for Disneyland Park in California, with an opening date to be announced later this year.
