OutKick founder Clay Travis, 46, has reignited controversy by issuing a $100,000 one-on-one basketball challenge to WNBA star Angel Reese, claiming he could beat her despite being a middle-aged media personality with no professional playing background.
Travis posted the challenge on X, saying, “Hey @Reese10Angel me vs you half court to 15 by 1’s and 2’s. $100k to the winner, more than you make in an entire WNBA season.” He added that the game could be aired on pay-per-view to raise millions for charity.
Travis mocked Reese’s contract with the Chicago Sky, noting that her four-year, $324,383 deal averages about $81,096 per season, with Reese set to make $74,909 in 2025, according to Spotrac.
He then quipped, “My 8th grade son’s team says they will train me. I got this.”
Travis estimated his own odds at winning. “I’m 6 foot 185, Angel Reese is listed at 6’3” 165. She plays basketball all the time. I occasionally play my 14 year old in our backyard. (And wreck him.)” He predicted a 62% chance of victory, admitting a 38% risk of injury.
He didn't stop there. Travis belittled Reese’s talent, claiming, “Angel Reese has middle school boy’s basketball level offensive skill,” and mocked one of her plays, sarcastically comparing her to Hakeem Olajuwon.
The challenge follows rising tension between Reese and fellow WNBA star Caitlin Clark, highlighted by a recent on-court shove and a TikTok repost where Reese mocked Clark. Clark, for her part, has stayed respectful, saying last year, “We’re not best friends, by any means, but we’re very respectful of one another.”
Reese has not publicly responded to Travis’s challenge. But the exchange has already ignited fierce debate online over gender, skill level, and respect for women’s sports.
