President Joe Biden's recent pardon of his son Hunter Biden sparked a wave of reactions. Republican lawmakers quickly pointed to an old post from Biden on X, where he claimed, "No one is above the law."
Reps. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., and Eli Crane, R-Ariz., shared the post, adding, "Unless your last name is Biden." Their comments underscored GOP criticism of perceived double standards.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tx., chimed in with a sharp remark. "This aged like fine milk," he tweeted, adding to the Republican backlash.
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., also voiced his outrage. "You’ve been lied to every step of the way by this Administration and the corrupt Biden family," he declared. "This is just the latest in their long coverup scheme. Disgraceful."
President Biden addressed the decision in a Sunday statement. He emphasized his commitment to Justice Department independence. "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making," he stated. "I kept my word even as I watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted."
The pardon granted to Hunter Biden is sweeping. It covers "offenses against the United States… during the period from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024," according to the official document.
Former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back his criticism. Posting on Truth Social, he questioned the broader implications. "Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!" he declared.
The pardon has ignited fierce debate. Critics argue it reflects a double standard, while supporters view it as a father defending his son.
