On Thursday it was revealed by the Broward County sherff that an armed school officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School avoided going in the building while 17 students were slaughtered by an 18-year-old gunman.
There was a system in place to keep this incident from being as devastating as it was.

Mark Caputo, a Politico's Florida Bureau journalist, made more details available from the conference where Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was speaking.
The armed school resource officer at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School responded to the shooting BUT NEVER WENT IN for “upward or 4 minutes” while the gunmen killed people, said Sheriff Scott Israel.

President Trump has since addressed the issue during an interview.
It's obviously a very challenging situation to be in, but as President Trump said, this man was trained for this situation and completely capable of stopping it before so much destruction was caused.
