A man who has been locked away behind bars for raping a child is being released after a Massachusetts Superior Court Judge decided that there was too much of a risk of him catching the coronavirus and they want to make sure he's safe.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why would they let someone out of jail - a place where they are safer from the virus than elsewhere - to keep him safe from catching the virus. It's a disease transmitted by people, if released from prison, he's just going to be around more people who have been around more people as well and therefore his odds of getting the virus is far greater.

If the guards at the jail do their job and follow proper social distancing rules, they're not going to infect inmates, and if they do...so what? They are scumbags who deserves to be in prison.

This guy is a convicted child molester and they're worried about his safety and well-being? What about the countless kids that you're putting at risk of being his next victim? Not to mention that being out in the general population with the rest of America is just putting him out in the world where the virus actually is.

“The health risks to a person in custody caused by the pandemic constitute changed circumstances,” which entitle Christie to a new hearing, Chief Justice Ralph Gants wrote, according to a report from The Salem News. “We also conclude that, in conducting that (new) review, a judge must give careful consideration not only to the risks posed by releasing the defendant –- flight, danger to others or to the community, and likelihood of further criminal acts — but also, during this pandemic, to the risk that the defendant might die or become seriously ill if kept in custody.”

This is the modern-day American justice system for you though.

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel: 'We Can't Get Back to Normal Until There's a Vaccine'

Special advisor to the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, told MSNBC that we will not be able to return to normal until a vaccine is made for the COVID-19. A vaccine which he claims could take between 12 and 18 months to create.

"No one is immune to the COVID-19 virus," Ezekiel said, "It threatens all of us. But while we are all experiencing the same pandemic, we are not experiencing it in the same way. The first dividing line is whether you or someone you love has gotten sick. Many Americans have not yet seen firsthand what devastation a positive test can inflict. Another dividing line is whether you have a job that lets you stay at home, working as you juggle child care and video chats."
