During a press conference with Romania's president, Trump let loose on James Comey. Trump calls Comey a liar and says, "I'll 100% testify under oath to deny Comey's story."
At the beginning Trump was asked whether or not he had tapes of his Comey conversations, which was something he implied on Twitter. Trump said: “I’ll tell you about that maybe some time in the very near future…You’re going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don’t worry.” Trump would not admit to not having the tapes.
Also, Trump accused Comey of lying about their meeting at the Oval Office. Comey said that Trump said he wanted him to drop the Flynn investigation. When asked whether or not he would testify under oath, Trump said, "100%. I would be glad to tell him exactly what i just told you."

Trump Calls Comey a Liar
While this was a big time move that are exactly the reason many of Trump's backers love him, he should have avoided this. There would have been no problem getting over Comey's charges. Instead he decided to match up his own credibility compared to Comey's. Additionally, Comey has already testified under oath while Trump has not.
Worst of all, it keeps everyone talking about the scandal. The best thing that could happen is to let this scandal slowly slide into the rear view mirror. Former FBI Director James Comey himself would have signed up for having Trump say this today, if given the opportunity.
