A photo form a Reuters photographer shows that a tree planted at the White House by Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron has disappeared.

The tree was an oak sapling. It was brought from the site of a battle from the first world war that involved US marines. I twas a gift from the French president that he brought along for his first state visit to Washington.

The two presidents planted while using golden shovels to dig the ditch. Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron were looking on while they did this.

There was much speculation fueled by the planting. Was Macron "trolling" Trump over his environmental policies and withdrawal from the Paris accord with this move?

Per The Guardian:

Photographs taken by Yuri Gripas of Reuters on Saturday showed only a yellow patch of grass in the spot on the White House grounds where the tree was planted.

French media were quick to take notice. The French edition of Huffpost quoted a French government official as saying the oak was “doing well” but was under quarantine.

The White House did not immediately comment.
