In a disgusting act, thugs attack a WWII veteran by a group who was attempting to vandalize flags at his Texas home. The veteran who was attacked 92-years-old and is blind. His name is Howard Banks and he lives in Kaufman, Texas.

Banks heard noises coming from near where his flagpole is outside. He went out to take a look and see what was going on.

"I try to salute my flag every morning," he told KDFW/Fox 4 News. "I come out, hold on to my railing and salute my flag."

Thugs Attack a WWII Veteran

While outside seeing what's going on someone pushed Banks in the back. This caused him to fall to the ground. Later on someone was able to locate Banks while he was on the ground and was able to help him up and contact the police. Luckily there were only minor injuries suffered by Banks.

According to Banks, the thugs were not able to get to his U.S. Marine Corps flag, but they were able to get to his "God Bless All Police" sign and toss it across the yard.

He told the officers that this is not the first time his flags have been vandalized. Previously his flags have been cut down, shredded and thrown in a ditch. For those crimes Banks did not contact the law.

Since Banks is legally blind he was unable to provide an accurate description of the suspects. He indicated that he was able to hear more than one suspect fleeing from the scene of the crime.

Per Fox News:

Banks, who was 18 when he enlisted in the armed forces and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II, is extremely protective of the American flag.

"It's the one thing I can cling to. Yet at my capacity, there's not much I can do. But I can honor our flag," he said.

“We are doing everything in our power to find the suspects that committed this cowardly assault and bring them to justice,” the Kaufman Police Department said. “This gentleman is a hero to our officers and the city's residents should be extremely proud to have him as part of our community.”

Banks admits he'd like to apply his own brand of justice when the culprits are caught. "If there's any way to catch them and was able to do so, I'd like to whoop them good with my crutch."

Banks' family is now planning to install cameras around the house, police said.

What a disgusting act by these thugs. There aren't many lower crimes than going after the flags of a veteran. These idiots found out the worst thing they could do and did it. They knew they could break this veteran's heart by destroying his flag, so they tried to do it.
