On Thursday there was a South Carolina man arrested for trying to join ISIS. He was taken into custody and appeared before a federal court Friday morning.
Here is more from the Daily Wire:
Abdin faces charges of providing material support for ISIS. It is believed that he was flying out of Charleston to join ISIS overseas.
There is nothing to suggest at this point that he was planning an attack in the United States.
According to the DOJ, "This investigation is being handled by the FBI-JTTF. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Kittrell of the District of South Carolina and Trial Attorney Jennifer Burke of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section are prosecuting the case."
There isn't much known about Abdin in the public record at this point other than that he's from Ladson, S.C.
NBC News reached out to Abdin's lawyer, who declined to comment.
So real life Americans are attempting to join ISIS. That's nice, isn't it?
