NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal told an Atlanta TV station he is considering for office. Shaq says he'll run for sheriff in 2020.
Shaq didn't specify to WXIA which city he would run for sheriff. He currently holds residence in Georgia and Florida.
"This is not about politics for me. It's something that I always wanted to do. It's just about bringing people closer together," Shaq said on Friday. "You know, when I was coming up, people love and respected the police, the deputies. And I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community that I serve."
Shaq is currently an honorary deputy in Clayton County, Georgia. He has also been a reserve police officer in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, Tempe, Golden Beach, Florida and Doral, Florida.
Even though Shaq has no direct experience, he is confident in his ability to be a delegater. He is confident in his ability to put the right people around him that will help him succeed.
"I know how to run the team," Shaq said. "My style is going to be to surround myself with guys that have been doing it way longer than I've been doing it, surround myself with smarter people. And I know it'll be successful."
Though Shaq said he is entertaining the notion of running for a sheriff's office, running for mayor is something he will not touch.
"Mayor no, I would never run for mayor," O'Neal said to WXIA.
