In a move many people have wanted since President Trump took office, President Trump fires FBI Director James Comey. This move was made shortly after Comey provided misleading testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee about Huma Abedin's classified emails that were found on Anthony Weiner's personal computer.
Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that 'the president has accepted the recommendation of the deputy attorney general and the attorney general regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.'
Per the Daily Mail:
Trump said: 'The FBI is one of our nation's most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement.'
Spicer also made it clear that the search for a new FBI Director will start right away.
Comey told senators that Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's former top aide, forwarded hundreds of thousands of emails to her husband, Anthony Weiner. Some of these emails included classified information.
Late Tuesday the Judiciary Committee received a letter from the Justice Department that acknowledged Comey's statement was inaccurate.
Earlier in the day Spicer was asked about Comey's job security. At that point Spicer declined to answer.
"I haven't asked him,'" Spicer said then. "I have not asked the president since the last time we spoke about this."
Another issue that the FBI is looking into is re-examining the Hillary Clinton email investigation by looking into the emails that were forwarded to Anthony Weiner's laptop.
Just last Wednesday Spicer voiced his confidence in Comey. Former President Barack Obama appointed Comey to a ten-year term.
Trump had just voiced his displeasure in Comey on Twitter.
FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds! The phony...

At that point Spicer informed the reporters: "The president has great confidence in the director."
While testifying about the Clinton email case just last week, Comey stated that his agents had found hundreds of thousands of emails on Weiner's laptop. He also noted that they were sent to Weiner so he could print them out for Abedin. Now at this point it seems that Comey misspoke.
Below are the official letters that ended Comey's tenure as FBI Director.
