Last week it finally became official: Donald Trump is now the third American President in history to ever be impeached by the House of Representatives. Or was he?
One of the Democrats' star witnessed, Noah Feldman said that until the articles are delivered to the Senate the President hasn't actually been impeached. So then why is Pelosi and the Democrats holding onto the articles? I thought this was a matter of urgency and that's why they were rushing it.
The vote came pretty much as expected with unanimity among the Republicans and a few Democrats breaking ranks and voting with the Republicans.
But now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulling this stupid stunt by refusing to hand over the articles of impeachment to the Senate until Mitch McConnell either caves in and gives her what she wants or makes it impossible for Pelosi to stall any longer.
But McConnell doesn't play that game.
According to Daily Mail,
Pelosi has to transmit the articles of impeachment and appoint ‘managers’ to prosecute the president. She offered no timeline, saying she wanted to see the Senate’s plan for a ‘fair trial,’ effectively holding the articles over McConnell’s and Trump’s heads.
McConnell, who previously said he wanted to hold a trial in January, responded: ‘It’s beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic Leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage.’
‘Frankly, I’m not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn’t want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch.’
So how long will this mess actually go on for? Maybe they just wanted to make sure they get their Christmas break? Or maybe it really is something more sinister than something as simple as that.
