Many people were shocked during the 2016 presidential election, but none more than Hillary. Obama had to pressure Hillary Clinton to concede on election night. Yeah. It was that shocking for her, she was in a state of total disbelief. Even when it was clear to everyone in the world that Hillary had no chance of winning, it still took pressure from President Obama to get her to concede.
Per Daily Caller:
“POTUS doesn’t think it’s wise to drag this out,” White House political director David Simas is reported as saying to Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager.
The campaign did not concede at that point.
Later, President Obama himself called and told Clinton, “You need to concede.” The president then repeated the demand to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta shortly thereafter.
Even though she did not publicly concede on election night, it finally did result in her picking up and saying the 2 words she never wanted to say: "Congratulations, Donald." This is according to The Washington Post.
President Obama began making the calls after Trump win Wisconsin. According to the Post, “President Barack Obama thought it was over and did not want a messy recount.”
It is now known as the night we, the American people, finally disposed of Hillary Clinton.
