A boy lost his father in the line of duty. He was a police officer with the Amarillo Police Department. On his Jackson Scherlen's first day of school his dad's co-workers stepped up in a big way to try to fill the father's void.
Officer Justin Scherlen passed away earlier this month at age 39. This was due to complications from injuries he suffered during an on-duty crash.
On Jackson's first day of school he was greeted by his father's brothers and sisters in blue when he arrived.

Obviously, everyone wishes Jackson's father was there to see him off for the first day of school. But since he couldn't, the men and women in blue of Amarillo filled in admirably. They made a tough day a little less tough for Jackson and his family.
