Finally, the Kenosha Police Union spoke up and provided the most detailed account of what happened during the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha.
The shooting put Kenosha on the map with rioting and violent protests after the left expressed their anger over the shooting which they hadn't even gotten all the facts for.
The testimony of Brendan Matthews, a lawyer with the Kenosha Professional Police Association, is more detailed than anything that's been put out by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, which is currently investigating.
In the recent viral cell phone footage, you can see Officer Rusten Shesky and other officers trying to catch Blake. After the confrontation, Blake withdrew from the officer and reached inside of a parked vehicle. The move ultimately resulted in paralyzing Blake after Officer Shesky shot him multiple times and severed his spinal cord.
It's important to note that officers were responding to a domestic dispute complaint and were aware of Mr. Blake's violent history, including a warrant out for his arrest following a sexual assault complaint.
Matthews adds that officers were dispatched after a caller claimed that Blake was attempting to seal their vehicle and had already taken their keys. Matthews also noted that officers were not made aware that Blake was reportedly armed with a knife but would later see it during the altercation.
"The officers first saw him holding the knife while they were on the passenger side of the vehicle," he said.
Witnesses say that Blake was seen in a physical altercation with police. The witness who recorded the footage, Mr. Raysean White, added that he heard officers yell "Drop the knife! Drop the knife!", but that he did not see the knife.
During the scuffle, officers ordered Blake to drop the knife several times and Blake was tased at least twice. The taser has zero effect on Blake.
"Blake forcefully fought with the officers, including putting one of the officers in a headlock," Matthews said. A second stun from a Taser also did not stop him, he said.
The left started rioting before they found out all of the facts as usual.
In fact, just last week they started rioting in Minneapolis because a man committed suicide, but they thought that a police officer shot him.
