Lara Logan who used to be a journalist for CBS News had some strong words for Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender after Bender made the remark that calling the police for help when you need them actually comes from a place of privilege.

Logan tweeted:

“I remember when I was being gang-raped & beaten by a mob in Egypt, would have been great to have a police force to call then. Would that have been my white privilege talking?” she asked. “I’ve stood against racism all my life, don’t have a racist bone in my body. My heart breaks…”

Logan is speaking of when she was in Cairo, Egypt covering the resignation of Hosni Mubarak when she was brutally gang-raped by a mob of men.

Logan was responding to Bender who said during an interview on CNN that being able to call the police comes from a “place of privilege.” She was responding to a question from CNN’s Alisyn Camerota when she was asked, “What if in the middle of night, my home is broken into? Who do I call?”

Bender replied, “Yes, I mean, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors, and I know, and myself too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege because for those of us for whom the system is working, I think we need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to already live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harm is done.”

Logan followed up as well and explained, “Also what I remember from that mob in Egypt – it only took a few trained, paid instigators to turn a celebratory crowd into a frenzy.”

Logan was viciously raped for 15 minutes then one woman and some teenage Egyptian boys stood between Logan and the mob until The Egyptian army found her. She was then sedated at her hotel room and flown back to the United States; she was hospitalized for four days.
