Italian Mayor Luigi Brugnaro of Venice has taken a page from President Trump's book as he promised to shoot dead anyone who shouts "Allah Akbar."
After the fatal Barcelona attack went down, Mayor Brugnaro has taken a hard line stance against radical Islamic terrorism. He declared that anyone who desires to kill innocent people in the name of Islam will be sent "straight to Allah before they can do any damage."
Per The Times:
The right-wing mayor of Venice has courted controversy by claiming anyone who yells “Allahu Akhbar” in the city’s St Mark’s Square will be shot.
Speaking at a conference, Luigi Brugnaro said Venice was safer than Barcelona, where 13 people were killed this month when terrorists drove a van down Las Ramblas.
“In contrast with Barcelona, where they had not set up protection, we keep our guard up,” he said. “If anyone runs into St Mark’s Square shouting ‘Allahu Akhbar’, we will take him down. A year ago I said after four steps, now after three. I will say it in Venetian: ‘Ghe Sparemo’ (We will shoot him).”
Mayor Dario Nardella of Florence mocked Brugnaro right after he made this speech. Nardella ran up to Brugnago mockingly shouting "Allahu Akbar" while the mayor of Rimini suggested on Facebook that people were misunderstanding Brugnaro's Venetian dialect.
Brugnaro doubled down in his reply. “I have never been politically correct, I am incorrect,” he responded. “I would shoot, we would shoot. If you want to kill me, maybe I will defend myself.”
