A manhunt is underway in California after an illegal alien shot and killed Police Corporal Ronil "Ron" Singh just past midnight on Wednesday.

After midnight Corporal Singh conducted a routine traffic stop when he suspected the driver of a silver Dodge pickup truck was drinking and driving. Shots were then fired by the driver.

When deputies arrived after responding to the call by Singh, the shooter was gone and Singh was lying on his back. Singh was then rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries, according to ABC.

In a Thursday news conference, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson says his department will not release the name of the man suspected of the crime but say they believe they know who he is.

He is described as a heavy-set Hispanic man with black hair. Investigators have evidence to believe he could still be in the county.

The sheriff's office tweeted out several fresh photos of the suspect on Thursday night. It, however, did not confirm that the name and date of birth circulating on social media along with these photos were that of the suspect.

Sheriff Christianson said that the suspect has been identified as someone who entered the country illegally.
