On Sunday the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to not come onto the field for the national anthem. Well, all of them but Alejandro Villanueva. The former Army Ranger and highly-decorated U.S. military veteran showed his teammates what it means to be an American.

On Sunday Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced that his team was not coming out for the national anthem. This was an unprecedented move when it comes to protesting the anthem. Here is Coach Tomlin being interviewed about the issue.

The Steelers went through with their promise to not come onto the field for the anthem. Well, all of them except for proud American Alejandro Villanueva.

This isn't the first time Villanueva has stepped out and taken on the NFL anthem protesters. Back in August 2016, he had this to say about the Colin Kaepernick protest:

"I don't know if the most effective way is to sit down during the national anthem with a country that's providing you freedom, providing you $16 million a year ... when there are black minorities that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for less than $20,000 a year."

The 6-foot-9 Alejandro Villanueva chose not to do what the rest of his team did when they refused to acknowledge the anthem. This Steeler no doubt made loads of fans all across the country thanks to his actions today.
