The Democrats have been going on a prison release spree of sorts in that they have been putting convicted felons back on the streets because they're afraid they might catch COVID while in prison.
How is it that they care more about these hardened criminals than they do protected people on the street from these criminals?
It's not as though these felons are rehabilitated and have no mean bone in their body.
Well, apparently a judge decided to ignore his common sense (which isn't so common anymore) when he released accused rapist Ibrahim E. Bouaichi on April 9, 2020 during the height of the pandemic’s first wave.
Bouaichi was had originally been held without bond, likely due to fear he would be a danger to society and—more particularly—his alleged victim. However, Bouaichi’s lawyers prevailed against the Judge’s better sense because they argued that the virus endangered both inmates and their lawyers.
It appears the original decision to hold Bouaichi without bond was the correct one. As local news station WJLA reports,
“On Wednesday, July 29, officers found a woman shot to death on S. Greenmount Drive. It was Alexandria's first homicide of the year. The victim was later identified as Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez.
“Gonzalez had testified against Bouaichi in Alexandria District Court in December. He was indicted on rape charges and jailed without bond.”
To further confirm that Bouaichi should still be in jail despite the pandemic, he ran, crashed his car, and apparently shot himself rather than go back to jail. WJLA added,
“On Wednesday, August 5, one week after Gonzalez was killed, Alexandria police officers with the FBI's regional Violent Crimes Task Force spotted Bouaichi in Prince George's County, Maryland.
“When authorities chased him, Bouaichi crashed the car he was driving. He was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.”
In addition to the riots, economic burdens, and obvious health crisis caused by the pandemic, apparently the release of violent offenders also has to be worried about.
