Democrat Congressman Tom Malinowski said that the United States needs undocumented migrants to "mow our beautiful lawns" and do other tasks American citizens were too "elitist" to do.

The comments were made while Malinowski was speaking at an event in the very wealthy New Jersey suburb of Hillsborough.

"There are a lot of jobs in our community, that like it or not, for better or for worse, Americans are not willing to take," Malinowski said, per Daily Mail.

"Who do you think is taking care of our seniors?" the Mr Malinowski asked those in attendance. "Who do you think is mowing our beautiful lawns in Somerset County?

"We don't usually ask, but a lot of those workers are undocumented. There are just not a lot of kids who, sorry, from Montgomery High, who are going to be doing that full time. You guys are going into robotics, for goodness' sake."

There was a video taken that captured an exchange where someone in the audience said they work for Code Ninjas, a company that teaches coding to children.

Malinowski is running for a second term in the 7th District of New Jersey. Over the years this has been a district that sends mostly Republican lawmakers to Congress.

It's unclear what the motivation is for this type of statement. Perhaps he is trying to appeal to an audience of wealthy people who would find value in having illegal migrants to cut their grass and do other things they will pay to have someone do? It's a very strange thing to say, especially for a Democrat, a party that counts on votes from immigrants and minorities.
