A small handful of Senate Republicans were initially in favor of calling witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Trump.

Initially, this led Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to believe that he wouldn't have enough votes to block the additional witnesses.

That changed on Thursday night when Sen. Lamar Alexander, who was one of the few who was undecided about calling witnesses decided that he would not support the measure to call them, claiming that the trial is "shallow, hurried, and wholly partisan".

Then on top of that, Sen. Lisa Murkowski also said that she wouldn't vote for the calling of the witnesses either.

Murkowski said in her statement, "Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed,”

“It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another."

“We are sadly at a low point of division in this country,” Murkowski said.

The vote is done and there will be no new witnesses call, and that has completely enraged Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Schumer told the press, “I believe that the American people should hear what every Senator thinks and why they’re voting the way they’re voting. And we will do what we can to make sure that happens.”

I'll tell you what the Senators think. They think that the Democrats have already had every chance to have their witnesses in the House hearings to get all their evidence. That's what those hearings were for.

They've also seen that the Democrats do not have even the slightest bit of credible evidence to suggest any wrongdoing by the President. It's like the President has said this entire time, they are out on a witch hunt.
