During Easter Sunday this year, Steven Van Zandt, a veteran guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, expressed his discomfort through a series of profane tweets. He attributed the mass shooting of Christians at a Nashville elementary school to Republicans and envisioned that they would one day be eradicated like "cockroaches."

According to reports, Steven Van Zandt, the 72-year-old guitarist who has been a part of Springsteen's band for nearly 50 years, launched into a tirade in which he criticized individuals who uphold the Second Amendment. Referring to himself as a "peace-loving hippie" elsewhere, Van Zandt called those individuals "Republican White Supremacist scumbag cowards and pussies that need guns to feel like real men."

According to reports, Van Zandt went on to suggest that Republicans who advocate for self-defense may meet a violent end at the hands of future generations. He allegedly stated on Twitter, "Gen Z, Gen Y, Gen X will unite and exterminate these cockroaches once and for all."

Van Zandt's language on Twitter quickly garnered disapproval from other users, leading him to remove the tweet. Despite this, he followed up with another diatribe against Republicans, referring to his critics as "Foxsucking scumbag Russian bots and MAGOTT cockroaches" who "take away ... women's rights," prevent "Black people from voting," "harass" trans people, and "shoot ... kids."

Van Zandt demanded that his Republican critics "do what Republicans do best and get the blank outta my feed!" before eventually removing that post as well.

On Tuesday, Van Zandt clarified that he never called for violence against Republicans, stating that he "clearly" meant he wanted to "exterminate" Republicans "at the ballot box," rather than advocating for physical harm.
