Sadly, this has been a common occurence during the Trump presidency. Another Muslim hoax crime. This time a Muslim woman was arrested and charged after setting her own mosque on fire. The woman who was arrested and charged was a 22-year-old woman.
Per a report by USA Today, police and firefighters were called to the scene of the Islamic Center of Des Moines. This occurred at 10 a.m. last Thursday when a small fire was started inside the mosque.
A police report says the suspect is Aisha Ismail. Security cameras caught her pouring lighter fluid on the carpet and lighting it on fire.
Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek said that Ismail fled the scene before firefighters and police were able to make it. Later that evening she was arrested in her West Des Moines apartment. She has been charged with first-degree arson.
It has not yet been indicated whether or not this was a hate crime and they still have not yet uncovered the motive.
“It doesn’t appear that she was trying to burn the place down,” Parizek said. “It seems like she was trying to make a statement.”
Fortunately no one was hurt in the fire and there was not much damage done. Ismail's bond was set at $25,000 according to a report from the USA Today.
This has been a disturbing trends. Muslims committing crimes that make it appear as if they were done by Trump supporters. When this story broke, CNN claimed that a Trump supporting white nationalist was . behind the crime.
