SnapCrap: Liberal San Francisco Has an App to Help Residents Report Feces on Public Walkways

You can’t make this crap up. There is now a free app, SnapCrap, that San Francisco residents can use to report when there is fecal mater on public sidewalks so the city’s public works departments.

The app allows users to take photos of the feces and get said photo to city management with the city’s 311 hotline. This number doubles as the official poop-reporting phone line.

Sean Miller, the creator of SnapCrap, told NBC that he was inspired to launch this app when he moved to San Francisco and was forced to hop over piles of actual human crap. This was something very different from life in his home state of Vermont.

San Francisco is happy with the app. A city manager said to NBC that “any way people want to report concerns and service requests to us … that’s great.” City officials claim they are trying to get ahead of the problem and avoid the need to have an app to help with human poop management on the city sidewalks.

That’s not the only tool available to San Franciscans when it comes to poop management. There is a “San Francisco Poop Map” and a fecal matter “heat map” which were made by a local realty service so users can know where poop is something very common to run into.

The app has been met with mixed reviews. There has been 3 of 5 stars rating in the app store.

This is not a new problem for residents of San Francisco. An estimate by city officials is that the city gets 1,300 complaints of human poop per month. It’s became so bad that San Francisco is spending millions of dollars to manage human feces all over the sidewalk.

Per Daily Wire:

One hundred and forty custodians, who patrol the Bay Area Rapid Transportation system (BART), are also being trained in new techniques that will help them better isolate and clean bio-hazardous waste.

The city has blamed the problem on a boom in the homeless population, but the number of homeless residing on San Francisco’s streets has remained largely stagnant since 2012. Instead, it seems, San Francisco is suffering from policies that won’t allow city workers to evict homeless encampments or move sidewalk sleepers. The city’s mayor says she’s committed to helping find more permanent housing for homeless individuals in an effort to clear out “tent cities,” but it’s not clear that will alleviate the human waste problem.

I say this way too much with the left, but the pun is too good to pass up: you can’t make this crap up.
