For the first four months of 2018, President Trump experienced an increase in the polls. This is despite 90% negative media coverage, according to a study.
But unlike last year, when the RealClearPolitics average depicted a slow but steady erosion in the President’s job approval numbers, the public has apparently warmed to Trump in 2018, even as the networks are as frosty as ever.
For this report, MRC analysts examined all 1,065 network evening news stories about President Trump and top members of his administration during the first four months of this year. The coverage totalled a whopping 1,774 minutes, or roughly one-third of all evening news airtime.
(For comparison, in 2015 and 2016, coverage of President Obama amounted to just ten percent of all evening news airtime.)
It’s very interesting that 71% of the economy coverage was negative. Making that even more interesting is that it’s nearly the most “positive” of the policy issues that were discussed, only being outpaced by North Korea, which is 68% negative. Despite a massive breakthrough in peace between North and South Korea, the negative still outweighs the positive 68% to 32%.
In the first four months of 2018, media coverage of Trump was 90% negative, and yet his approval rating has continued to climb.
Whether you love or hate Trump, you have to admit this is impressive.https://t.co/bEELxyoRY2

It was instructive to see the Reuters news agency disown it’s own poll because President Trump did well in it. In fact, most of the polling indicates his job approval rating is now close to 50 percent.

Despite all of this bad press, President Trump’s approval rating is still on the upswing. How is this possible? Obviously journalists are much less credible than they once were. President Trump has definitely played a hand in this shift.
There is no past President in the past that has had to withstand such a barrage of negative press over such an extended period of time. The fact that his approval rating is going up is the proof in the pudding that the media is losing their control of the public view of issues.
