New Jersey Governor Chris Christie: ‘If Trump Hadn’t Run We Would Have Won’

The soon-to-be former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told New Jersey media that if Donald Trump hadn’t entered the race he’d be president.

While speaking to NJ.com, Christie said he was the front-runner for the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination and he would have advanced and defeated Hillary Clinton easily if he didn’t have to worry about Donald Trump when running his campaign.

“It’s incredibly frustrating to think to yourself, ‘Wow, if this guy were not in the race, we’d win this thing,’” Christie said. “And I absolutely believe if Trump had not gotten into the race, I think we would have won.”

Per Daily Wire:

Christie also said that he doesn’t believe his twin scandals, Bridgegate and Beachgate, had a marked effect on how he was perceived by the national public, even if they did impact his reputation in New Jersey. Instead, he says, Bridgegate, which saw the governor accused of closing down a major thoroughfare between New Jersey and Manhattan as punishment against a Democratic rival, “deprived me of the benefit of the doubt,” and that people recognized the charges were “grossly unfair.”

Overall, he says he’s been a “B+” governor, and that he would have made an exceptional president.

Sadly, though, Christie is now perhaps most famous for his sad role in the Trump presidential campaign, as the man who picked up Trump’s McDonalds order and served as Trump’s punching bag, taking knocks for all “Establishment Republicans.”

As a reward for his service, Christie became the head of Trump’s transition team, and will likely join the administration after he leaves office, but he won’t regain the dignity he lost when Trump directed him to “get on the plane and go home” after a rally in Tennessee.

I’m not sure too many people share Christie’s opinion on this matter. He is a slick talking guy, but he’s very unlikable and people are very aware of his scandals. Maybe he can try in 2020 or 2024 if he is still around. I don’t like his chances.
