Clemson was No.2 in the country heading into a clash with Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. His Tigers were upset, but the real story was how it went down after the game. Dabo Swinney stood tall and showed major class after his team’s loss to Syracuse. He proved why top recruits are lining up to come play for him.
The 27-24 upset loss to Syracuse ended the defending national champ Clemson Tigers 11-game win streak which dated back to last season. It may have been a loss, but it definitely went a long way in gaining the respect of the fans. But it wasn’t just the fans who respect Dabo more. Coach Swinney made it a point to go to the Syracuse locker room and personally congratulate the Orangemen on a job well done.
Think this trip to their locker room didn’t have an impact on the Syracuse players? Think again.

“That’s one of the classiest things I’ve seen in my life,” linebacker Zaire Franklin said to David Hale of ESPN. “To have been knocked down like that and have the humility to come talk to us, that was cool as hell.”
Many see the post game handshake between coaches after football games as a necessary evil. Dabo went to Cuse’s second-year coach Dino Babers and offered him a heartfelt congratulations.

Dabo took complete accountability for the loss and shouldered the blame himself. Many other coaches go for cliches such as “we gotta execute” but Dabo took the blame himself.
Dabo Swinney: "They flat out out-coached us tonight. If I don't coach ‘em better, nothing else is going to matter."

His leadership is definitely rubbing off on his players.
“First off, I want to congratulate Syracuse,” defensive end Clelin Ferrell said. “They played their hearts out and they were the better team tonight.”
It’s good to see one of the top coaches in college football leading these young men and teaching them to be role models. Congratulations to Syracuse on their incredible upset win, but also congratulations to Clemson University for having such a great leader in Dabo Swinney.
