Mike Rowe Takes on Bill Nye

Bill Nye not the Science Guy has the left eating out of his hand, no matter how stupid he is. He has been solidified as their go-to scientist, despite not background in science. Nye has had their back on transgender issues, despite taking a stance against it on video before. He even made a run at Mike Rowe and questioned his qualifications to talk about hard work. Well, your fun is over. Mike Rowe takes on Bill Nye.

This post on Twitter made its rounds in the viral world.

This post takes on the people who criticize Bill Nye for parading around as a scientist while on the Netflix show Bill Nye Saves the World. On this show Nye addresses hot button topics such as gender, evolution, vaccines, climate change, GMOs, etc.

Since Mike Rowe is one of the faces of blue collar America, he somehow got pulled into this. The above social media post praises Bill Nye, who happens to be a mechanical engineer, for being a scientist, while it crushes Mike Row and suggests Mike Rowe can’t talk about working class jobs since he has never had one.

The host of Dirty Jobs is totally used to this type of criticism. Throughout his entire careers he has dealt with these same complaints. People ask, “What business does this guy have talking about the subjects on his programs with no direct experience?”

Mike’s response, per Inquisitr:

“I first responded to this newsflash a few weeks after Dirty Jobs premiered, way back in 2003, when a crusading critic in Seattle rushed to inform his readers that I wasn’t ‘an actual worker.’ I’ve been responding to that same revelation ever since…. Every month, for the last fourteen years, it occurs [to people] that I don’t possess any of the actual skills required to work in the industries my TV show highlighted. This breathless disclosure is usually followed by the ‘truth’ of my actual resume – which includes six years in The Baltimore Opera, three years in the home shopping industry, and hundreds of other dubious hosting gigs that apparently disqualify me from having an opinion on the nature of hard work and skilled labor.”

This whole situation became annoying very quickly to Mike. He never addressed himself as “the hard work guy” like Bill Nye has done with science. Rowe has always downplayed his knowledge in the industries that are shown on Dirty Jobs. He often refers to himself as a “perpetual apprentice” on the show.

Additionally, Rowe has made it clear that he has no issue with Nye. This is despite having very different views on several different subjects.

“To be clear, I have nothing against Bill. I met him a few years ago, and he was a perfect gentleman. We did a radio show together, as I recall, and though I suspect we might disagree on any number of things, he was both thoughtful and polite to me and the rest of his guests. However, I would never juxtapose myself with Work, in the same way Bill has juxtaposed himself with Science.”

Mike Rowe has always felt very strongly about filling the skills gaps. There are as many as 5 million jobs in the U.S. that remain unfilled because people are not qualified enough to fill them. He has spoken in depth about the benefits of choosing one of these career paths instead of a four-year degree.

“And just because you’ve earned a degree in your chosen field, it doesn’t mean you’re going to find your ‘dream job.’ Their imaginary existence just might keep you from exploring careers that offer a legitimate chance to perform meaningful work and develop a genuine passion for the job you already have. Because here’s another dirty truth: your happiness on the job has very little to do with the work itself.”
