Jerry Jones Doubles Down – ‘If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play’

Disrespecting the national anthem is the new cool thing to do in the NFL. Not for everyone. Jerry Jones doubles down and threatens to bench anyone who does it. Following the Cowboys loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys owner made his stance on the issue very clear.

Per Daily Caller:

“Yeah, I don’t know about that, but if there is anything that is disrespectful to the flag then we will not play. You understand? If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period. Period. We’re going to respect the flag,” Jones responded when asked about Cowboys players raising their fists during the national anthem.

Jerry Jones is the first NFL owner to come out with a hardline stance against the players protesting the national anthem. We will be following the story closely to see if any of the Cowboys decide to defy Jerry and “take a knee.”

In a previous game the Cowboys stood with their arms locked and took a knee before the anthem began.

Per Fox News:

Jones and the rest of the team kneeled arm-in-arm before the national anthem before a game against the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago, days after President Trump reignited the anthem-protest controversy.

Dallas players have stood on the sideline, many with hands over their hearts, during the anthem ever since former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling last season in protest of what he believed were instances of racial injustice in the U.S.

Jones said showing respect for the flag and the anthem is more important to him than any potential issues of team unity.

Additionally the Dolphins owner has came around on the issue and wants his players to stand for the anthem. Despite this, he had three players who remained off to the sideline while the national anthem played.
